Taking existing memories and making it your own

MATTHIAS WÄHNER photography

Photography has been used to capture moments in history. Creating memories not on a personal scale, but also on a global scale too. The photographer Mathias Wahner has taken these historical photos and almost made them his own, but placing himself in them. These are humorous not just because of the selection of photos he has chosen to tamper with, but that they are fairly convincing, and sometimes he blends in so well, he goes unnoticed at first.

In a way this is a form of recycling memories. By taking something that was capture of a serious moment in time, and making it into his own more humorous piece. Memories are being relived and remembered in both photographs, but just in slightly different ways.

I really like the idea of recycling memories, especially when the individual gives it a new purpose, or changed the effect of how an audiences feels about a piece.

For my photography project in terms of concept, it might be a fun idea to reenact photos from previous years, maybe including some of my own, from when me or my parents were younger.
