Lecca
I
really like Lecca’s work as it challenges the boundary between
natural and artificial, by using an unusual style, whilst being
visually interesting. The use of taxidermy animals parts to replace
natural parts on plants show that not only the life stilled in the
form of cut flowers, but also in dead nature by these animal parts.
‘To
depict inanimate natural or human-made objects, to pause time, and to
encourage the viewer to reflect either on the processes of nature or
on some religious or philosophical concept.’
I
think once the viewer notices that the parts are in fact animal
parts, it creates a big, almost shocking impact, however allows the
viewer to think deeply about the message her pieces could possibly
propose. In my work I want to make sure it is visually pleasing, as
well as creating depth and having a sturdy meaning, or area of
discussion behind it. Representing the idea of where the boundary
between life and death meets, and the existence of somethings form
after death. This idea of taxidermy used in art, constantly questions
this notion, especially when the preserved animal to some extent
represents it natural form, however is also manipulated.
